I truly believe therapy can be helpful for anyone no matter their background or current circumstances. However, different therapists fit different people and everyone has different needs. Therapy can be anything from learning new skills, gaining new perspective to processing major life transitions or trauma. Just because someone is doing alright does not mean that things can not or should not improve.
Finding the right therapist for you can be like finding a puzzle piece you've been looking for. It can be helpful to contact several therapists for small consultations and discuss your needs to get a sense of who they are and how they work before booking an initial appointment. Much of an initial appointment is feeling out if this person is the right fit for your therapeutic needs. Lastly, know that if ultimately I am not the correct fit for you I am more than happy to help connect you to other professionals in the area. My primary concern is that you receive what you need.
At this time, sessions are offered only on Friday afternoons and early evening.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitation Reprocessing. "Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences" (Maxfield, 2019). EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation while clients focus on a distressing memory to reduce vividness and emotional reactivity. To find out more about EMDR, please visit emdria.org or watch this video.
